LEGAL REQUIREMENTS Regulation 9, The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations require every employer to ensure that all employees who use work equipment have received suitable and sufficient training and have demonstrated competence in their safe use.

Refresher training to be taken every 3 to 5 years to maintain personnel competency in line with current HSE guidance.

Abrasive Wheel Training

WHAT TRAINING WILL I RECEIVE?
- Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels and precautions should be observed.
- Identification of markings on abrasive wheels such as type, speed limitations and grading.
- Methods of storing, handling and transporting abrasive wheels.
- Methods of storing and inspecting abrasive wheels
- The functions of components associated with abrasive wheels, including flanges, blotters, brushes and nuts used in mounting and including knowledge of correct and incorrect methods of assembling all components and correct balancing of abrasive wheels.
- The proper method of dressing abrasive wheels and the adjustment of the tool rest.
- Basic use including hazard awareness and safe operating practices
- Equipment can include but is not limited to a bench grinder, angle grinder, and disc cutter.
